Managing Calender Creep

I hop from meeting to meeting in my day and I don’t have time for real work!

Does that sound like you? If yes, you are not alone.

Meeting overload and calendar creep are the first world problems every executive of our times go through.

Here are some tips to make your calendar work for you and not against you 👇

  1. Async first & then Sync: Send a (loom) recording of your thoughts to your team before calling for a meeting to discuss or review or update.
  2. Say no before saying yes: If you are wondering, do we really need a meeting for this? Create a meeting invite first with an action verb and a purpose statement, then make a decision to call the necessary folks.

If someone else invited you for a meeting, ask these questions: Should I be in this meeting? Is my attendance important? Am i called for ego/fomo reasons? Does my perspective really add value in this matter? Is my opinion vital?
  3. Intentional Time Blocking: Block non-meeting time in your calendar and stick to it. eg: My non-meeting time (8:00AM - 12:30PM). Meeting time is between 2:00PM-4:00PM on Tue, Thur only. Block this in your calendar upfront. Your team will adjust to your calendar in just two weeks.

If you don’t have the courage to own your calendar, no one else will. Guard your time and let your colleagues know that you value your time and their time.

🥂 to calendar freedom!
