A mental vacation

If you are someone who is driven by total ownership, it is hard to take a break. There is always something to do. A business to take care of, a creative side-hustle, a blog to write, a family to run and more.  Continuously wondering about the next action leads to this constant search of what else needs to be done.

This continuous ON mode mentally sucks all the energy unknowingly. We get used to the ON mode and forget to switch it off. Slowly this depletes the life energy in all of us.

Even if it is eustress (the-dopamine-kindling-getting-things-done kinda stress) it is still stress.

Here are 3 ways in which you can combat your ON mode issue:

  1. Having a scheduled rest time during the day without screens helps. The routine can be 30 mins every 3 hours.
  2. Dedicating one full day to be lazy and unproductive helps immensely.
  3. If you have the luxury, take one week off every 8 weeks of work.

A reflective mental vacation is as rejuvenating as a real physical vacation.  When it is planned and scheduled in a calendar you will feel less guility about being unproductive.
