New year, new possibilities 🔥
Ahead of us lie 365 days of opportunity, and it's our responsibility to utilize them effectively. Deciding what to do, how to do it, and how much to do can be overwhelming. For years, I was paralyzed when it came to setting New Year's resolutions, to the point of becoming opposed to them. It was a double-edged sword: one side overwhelmed me, the other underwhelmed me.
I overcame this dilemma by developing a system called CONDUCE. To be successful, you don't need the tool side of CONDUCE, but rather, its principle side.
Here's a step-by-step guide to design your 2024 intentionally.
Life is a composite AND equation. The elements of the AND equation include: body/mind, career, finance, relationships, and being. To achieve balance and harmony, attention to all aspects of this equation is vital. Sometimes, we might focus on one thing for a year and make progress - but this is the exception, not the rule.
Step 1: For each element, choose one intention, then establish your point A (your current state) and point B (where you want to be by the end of 2024).
Step 2: Pick 2/5 of these intentions as your keystone for 2024 and make them primary. The remaining 3 will be your secondary intentions.
Step 3: I prefer the word intent over goal as Intent is something you genuinely wish to achieve, and where there's a will, there's a way. By focusing solely on these five intentions, you can eliminate distractions. Either remove the item, delegate it appropriately, or manage the expectation.
Step 4: For each intention, plan how you will make progress. For example, if you want to lose weight, you'll need a specific diet and routine. Your principles, system, and routines will depend on your chosen intent. Taking a 360-day timeframe allows you to break down the effort into manageable chunks. If you want to lose 20 kg, aim to lose 2 kg a month.
Step 5: Find an accountability group or partner and share your intentions. Then, take action every day. Review your progress every week and keep progressing every day. That is how you compound.
Trust me, while this may sound straightforward, it's not easy. With the right systems and routines, you can achieve it all.
