Urgency in Agency
The designer in me hated SHIP IT now culture 😡 the reason being, I could hardly connect with any customers, gather real insights, explore options, facilitate workshops, brainstorm with all cross functions in that urgency around shipping. From the bottom of my heart I hated the pace and the madness around it.
Over a period of time, I realised the wisdom behind shipping it🚢 and learning by doing. What changed my mind is the tangible aspect of shipping. The truth is in front. Customers can touch it, feel it, work with it and give feedback right then and there. It helps us learn faster and avoid the overthinking paradigm.
An interesting fact that helps us ship better quality is our innate desire to not tarnish our reputation in front of other human beings aka customers. We tend to do our best.
On a flip side the fear of tarnishing reputation is what holds us from shipping as well. We procrastinate. We bloat the features. We buy more time. We add more resources. We end up messing it.
Organisations who have the courage and strength to ship scrappy features win the market. Customers are forgiving when they know next version will be better than this one. That integrity builds trust. Over a period of time, ship it culture gets better results than overthinking culture.

In a nutshell, I am building my agency in urgency. That is surely helping us win better as a design org and also win as a business.
I secretly love that part of Salesforce. Our release dates in a year for next 10 years is fixed. We work backwards at all times. We find ways to deliver better value to our customers in every release and our customers know it too. We live in urgency but the hidden agency is what makes it ✨
