An Ode to the Em Dash
For years, the em dash has been a cornerstone of my writing—a deliberate choice, a stylistic signature that felt uniquely mine. It's woven into the very fabric of my literary identity.
Then came ChatGPT.
Now, it seems every AI-generated text is saturated with them. What was once a distinctive mark, requiring a conscious three-key (option + shift + minus) combination to produce, now feels— dare I say— commonplace. It's a genuine identity crisis for those of us who championed its use long before AI made it ubiquitous!
