"I think you need a coach and not a mentor," a well-meaning senior advised me.
Taking this to heart, I sought out coaches. During my first interaction, one told me, "Oh! I'm a life coach. I don't possess the expertise in design strategy you're looking for. You probably need a mentor in your specific field, not just a coach." I sighed deeply as my eyes rolled skyward. 🙄

We've overcomplicated our lives with linguistic economics. Single words carry multiple meanings, and deciphering these nuances consumes precious time. Throughout my professional journey, I've searched for mentors and coaches, yet never encountered a single person embodying everything I needed. People tell me my expectations are unreasonable.

Perhaps they're right, but as a designer, I focus on customers' genuine needs and desires. No one wants to search endlessly or maintain multiple subscriptions for various services. Meanwhile, elite coaches with billion-dollar valuations charge millions, placing their guidance beyond the reach of ordinary people.

Here's my proposition: I don't care what label you give me—coach, mentor, teacher, trainer, or simply Karthi. What matters is solving problems with tenfold efficiency. I won't passively observe your evolution across endless sessions; I find that approach ineffective. Instead, I'll be direct: "Here's where you're struggling, and here's the understanding, framework, principles, awareness, or action you need to advance." The work remains yours to complete, but I'll identify what's missing. Together, we'll make measurable progress, with each session guiding you toward truth. Like mathematics, truth either exists or doesn't—there's no ambiguity.

My goal isn't to make you comfortable. My purpose is highlighting what isn't working, what you're overlooking, and the blind spots hindering your progress. Share everything possible before our sessions, unless you prefer paying me simply to listen. Keep straightforward matters asynchronous and reserve complex issues for our live discussions. That's how we'll operate.

If you need to learn a concept to move forward, I'll teach it. If you need to complete work for me to assess your position, you'll do it. When we need to brainstorm solutions together, we will. If we both lack answers, we'll find someone who has them. This defines my approach.

Don't expect therapy. Expect truth. We are beyond labels.
