Sita's Ramayana
I started this year’s reading journey with a simple book: Sita’s Ramayana. It is the same set of events but different narrative.
Through Sita's eyes, I witnessed the epic unfold anew - her guilt, the weight of others' perceptions, her mixed emotions, and the unexpected bonds formed in captivity. This fresh viewpoint multiplied my respect for Sita and deepened my empathy for her experiences.
This literary journey sparked a realization: we all have our own Ramayanas, shaped by our unique perspectives. The story shifts depending on who's telling it, each version rich with its own nuances and specifics.
In our professional lives, we encounter multiple versions of the same events:
- The ally's supportive narrative
- The tough nut's critical view
- The manager's broader perspective
- Our own self-reflection
Triangulating these diverse threads can be cathartic and illuminating, provided we approach them with emotional intelligence.
Ultimately, what matters most is the Ramayana we write for ourselves. Let's craft it with authenticity and self-awareness, honoring our journey while recognizing the validity of others' perspectives.
