Unzap

How to UNZAP Yourself

We’ve all been there. A moment goes wrong — a mistake, a hard conversation, a tough outcome — and before we even realize it, we’ve ZAPPED ourselves:

Z- We Zoom in so far on the problem that we lose perspective.
A- We Attack our identity instead of the issue.
P- We Punish ourselves like a failure, not a learner.
S- We Shame and shrink, hoping silence will make it go away.

This is what Brendon Burchard calls the ZAPS response — and it drains energy, confidence, and self-trust.

The real challenge isn’t the tough moment.
It’s the spiral that follows.

So how do we UNZAP?

Try this:
1. Zoom out → Expand the frame. See the full picture. One moment isn’t your entire story.
2. Anchor your identity → You are not your mistakes. You are the kind of person who learns and leads.
3. Practice compassion → Forgive yourself. Talk like you would to a friend who’s trying their best.
4. Stand tall → Don’t shrink. Share, reflect, repair — that’s how trust rebuilds.

You don’t grow by staying perfect.
You grow by staying present — especially when things go wrong.

Next time you catch a ZAP creeping in, name it. Then choose to UNZAP.
That’s how we uncap our energy, our confidence, and our real strength.
