Bookliving - Mutual Funds by Monica Halan

We did it 🔥

Let's Talk Mutual Funds - Part 1 happened last evening in Maker's Guild. We have scheduled our part 2 to happen next week.

Personally, I felt very happy reviewing the book the way I did and sharing it with the club. This is a (financial) life changing boo, so I didn't beat myself up for not finishing up in just an hour. It reminded me of my college days, especially days before our semester exams.

I don't know how other colleges function but in my time we always get 10 days of study holidays before the semester. Most of us start figuring out the books/notes at that time.

Till school I was prompt with my studies. I did it everyday. In college, that habit dwindled and most studying happened in the study hols. Obviously 10 days is not enough to study subjects like signals & systems, digital electronics, electron devices and circuits kind of subjects. So we split the chapters in our gang and trusted the chapter owner to come back and enlighten the rest of us around what should we prepared for. We called that method as"Kadha solrathu" means story telling of the chapter 😁

Because it was the chapter owner's responsibility, they came back with the most important aspects of the chapter that helps the gang to pass decently. They introduce the chapter with a map and explain all that is there in the landscape. Then they discuss the previous year papers showing what parts of the big picture are important for scoring better grades. Then they pin point and tell us stories around the important questions one must know about this chapter and we did it in all 4 years of engineering. Looking back, all of us passed with distinction and none of us remember anything about control systems or signals and systems 😂 but that trust filled, story telling sessions are still imprinted in my heart.

I did the same for the book living as well. This time there is no exams but it is life. Most of us in many ways have low financial literacy so I wanted to take this opportunity and help the makers.

They could just read the book and figure out themselves isn't it? Why bother making slides and pin point important aspects you may ask.

It is always fun to listen to someone who has read it and who can say it in a way that all of us can understand - that storytelling and flow matters. That is exactly what we did last evening. As I expected we couldn't finish in one part as the subject is technical. We are doing part 2 next week. But doing this filled my heart. I spent a little time to put things together and I guess it will live as a significant asset for the club for years to come.
