Boredom breeds creativity 🔥
Our usual rhythm of business aka cadences is usually tuned to visibility. We hardly tune them to building credibility.
Typical cadences range from business reviews to product reviews to process reviews. We hardly set our cadences to listen deeply to our people, set time for focused work, make time for imagination, luncheons, critiques, teaming etc. Usually that happens once a year by popping balloons, having chef made meals in expensive ambience in an offsite. Why not on-site every few weeks ?
As humans we need consistent bonding, spaces to be vulnerable and positive vibes. I don’t mind if all the above happens in a good ambience but that is secondary.
Set your routines and cadences in such a way that your teams become super teams by habit. Remove everyday stress, protect your teams calendars, give space for them to think, fight for their focused time, empower your teams to make decisions, allow them to make mistakes, fiercely protect them from distractions and super charge your products. That is all is a leaders role.
As a gardener you job is to find potent seeds, de-weed, provide fertile ground to grow, give water as needed and don’t block sunlight. As a result your garden will flourish. If the same analogy is applied to teams, when you do the right things, right things happen to you and your team.
Don’t pull out the seed everyday and see if they have grown in the name of visibility. they will never. It took me a decade to realise this. If you are a new leader, start early.
