Just in a matter of weeks our lives have drastically changed across the globe. At an individual level, our daily routine, the way we meet people, greet them, collaborate with them and conduct business with them is slowly changing. We are going through physical distancing, wearing masks, working in pyjamas, stuck in front of screens for hours together, washing hands with soap obsessively, self quarantine is slowly becoming the new normal.
At a government level, the world is on lockdown, free trade has collapsed, borders are closed, planes are not in the air, trains are not on the tracks, demands for many products is down, protective personal equipments for healthcare workers are not available along supply chains. The countries are hoarding and now 'local production' is becoming the new normal. Globalism is failing. Localism is saving. Suddenly we appreciate glocals. Our daily behaviours as a country has changed.
For the first time in the history of the world there are many crisis happening at the same time. It feels like the world is on a pause. Everything has slowed down. Not just markets and economies, even people and their needs. We are hoping this dark phase will end soon. We all want this phase of human history to be temporary. Once this passes (hopefully), the mankind is ready to pick up the pieces and move on.
We, human beings are adaptable, and we will cope. Force majeure, people are adopting new ways of working and living in these unprecedented times. Even kids are cooperating patiently and going through school lessons using video conferencing. Our old patterns of mobility and movement have been redefined in recent days. It is ok for kids and cats to conference bomb and both givers and receivers have accepted this as the new normal.
All of this is because of an invisible microbial organism: Sars-Cov-2 also referred as Covid 19!
May be a brave new world has started or may be a temporary new world is keeping us afloat. In either ways, the new normal is setting in.
