I have been experimenting with human nature using all forms of content just for the fun of it.
Here is my aha moment - people are not after value, they are after relatability.
All advices around pour in value is bakwas. Write in such a way that the reader relates to what you are saying. That makes the person read.
Another thing is don’t allow ai to rewrite your post. It takes away the soul of what you wrote. Whenever I used ai folks could not relate as it was densely packed with value and they could not relate to my voice 😉
People like to save listicles, carousels, visuals. That doesn’t mean they read what was in the lists. They just saved and that is all.
Post-event posts get a lot of upvotes purely because of the sense of belonging and community. It is not the value again. Meeting someone in-person and listening to them, clicking a few selfies fills the heart. It is not the content. It is the connect that matters the most.
LinkedIn plays its own part for the post to get more attention i guess. Whenever new features are used, despite meh content it still gets its attention.
It is interesting that people don’t react to posts for the fear of LinkedIn bombarding them with the follow up reactions, comments and other engagement on the posts. It feels like a punishment for liking the post. 😝
One last thing, people have lost the ability to read. This is scary but it is what it is. Long posts are usually saved and not read. People love reels, tweets and jokes. Long form is slowly dying. I thought it was only kids who are not able to read but even adults are loosing it. I don’t know where we are headed. May be back to writings on the caves 🫣
So write for relatability. Make deep connections. Value is just a bait. If it is valuable and relatable, you are unstoppable.
My findings summarized. Fin.
